What is the "Updating Database" box that sometimes appears when you start the PhatNoise Music Manager?

The PhatNoise MUSIC Manager automatically searches the directories on your hard drive that you've already loaded into the database for any new MP3s, WMA, or OGG files when you start the program. For example, if you've loaded your C:\My_Music directory into the PhatNoise MUSIC Manager, every time you run the PhatNoise MUSIC Manager, we'll check that directory for any new songs. If you've downloaded any new songs, the PhatNoise MUSIC Manager will find them and load them into your database. Also, if you delete some songs from your hard drive that are included inside the PhatNoise MUSIC Manager database, the PhatNoise MUSIC Manager will recognize this and remove the songs from your database.

In the PhatNoise MUSIC Manager I keep getting a "Gracenote Error" when I try to encode a CD.
This error occurs when the PhatNoise MUSIC Manager cannot connect to the Gracenote server. Disable any proxy server or firewall you are running and try to encode again. You may also modify proxy settings in the PhatNoise MUSIC Manager by clicking "Options" and then the "CD Encoder" tab. Click the "Modify Proxy Settings" button.
